Vocal Quality

In "The Right to Speak: Working with the Voice," Patsy Rodenburg writes that "each of us has the right to our own voice---to speak in our own way, with our own God-given voice."

Today, it seemed as though tellers had found their individual voices. Their voices were varied, interesting, fit the story and added to the color of the tale. Isn't it odd though (this just struck me today) that there was a huge difference between a teller's "telling" voice---and their "non-telling" voice. Some of us have such soft voices (for non-telling purposes) that they can  hardly be heard---and yet they use an entirely different voice for storytelling.

Did anyone experience "volume" issues today (inability to hear parts of stories, particularly when the teller had reached a soft, quiet moment)? I love having a microphone for those kinds of moments (which are in most stories), but wonder whether volume can be addressed by focusing on breathing more fully.
