connections within a program

Three or four times during Bil Lepp's second story, he referred back to something we heard/learned in his first.  Because of our discussion yesterday about looking for connective tissue within a program, my ears perked up and noticed the effect it had.  First, it was a wonderful moment of pause in Bil's rapid fire telling but it also provided a sense of community.  It felt like an "in" joke and the audience were part of that inner circle because we knew the tidbit of information just thrown out as an aside.  Not only did it make connections with us, but in that split second - images, story lines  and characterizations from the first story were brought forward into the current story.  The engagement enlivened the story by showing the individual story does not stand alone but is part of something bigger.
